Mar. 18 - David Mabry, Capacity
If you were in attendance on Sunday, you know what a treat we received! David Mabry, who has only been attending Newstart with his beautiful family for a few weeks, preached to us for the first time and delivered a great sermon!! If you were unable to attend, be sure you take the time to catch it on our website.
David referred us to Ephesians 3:14-19 (ESV):
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
So often we pray that the Lord will pour his blessings on us, but the truth is that every day God showers us with more blessings that we could ever comprehend. What we really need to pray for is the capacity to deal with the windfall we are already receiving; pray to comprehend the incomprehensible. God wants us to experience these blessings to the point that they overflow, but not so that our individual lives will be happier. He wants it to pour out of our lives and overflow to others.
Sure, most of us know that our Father in Heaven loves us deeply, but when we sit down and try to actually “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,” are we able to do it? Can we fathom loving all the people on earth so much, no matter what they’ve done, that we would sacrifice our perfect son to spend eternity with them? This week, focus your prayers on asking for the capacity to truly understand our Father’s love so that we can be “filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Let that love pour from you onto others!
